Postdoctoral Fellows
Postdoctoral Fellows are postdocs who receive external funding, and are paid directly by the external funding agency or through the ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ Health Centre (MUHC) or an affiliated institute.
If this is your case, you will be considered a student, not a ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ employee. Postdoctoral Fellows are also sometimes referred to as "Group A."Ìý
Postdoctoral Scholars
Postdoctoral Scholars receive external funding like Postdoctoral Fellows. However, Postdoctoral Scholars are paid 100% of this funding through ±«ÓãÖ±²¥'s payroll systems.
If this is your case, you will be considered a student, not a ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ employee. Postdoctoral Scholars are also sometimes referred to as "Group B."Ìý
Postdoctoral Researchers
Postdoctoral Researchers receive part of their funding directly from ±«ÓãÖ±²¥. Postdoctoral Researchers are consideredÌýboth students and ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ employees.
Postdocs receiving more than 25% of their income from ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ funds are unionized Postdoctoral Researchers while all others are non-unionized. Postdoctoral Researchers are also sometimes referred to as "Group C."Ìý
