Two recent books from cultural theorist Rita Felski, Hooked: Art and Attachment (2020) and The Limits of Critique (2015), have ignited considerable debate about how to respond to and describe the aesthetic effects of texts in various media. Our panel opens with commentary on both Felskiā€™s arguments and what reception of her claims might illuminate about contemporary responses to the nexus of questions raised by the idea of ā€œreading for aesthetics.ā€ Panelists will then consider the nature, cultural work, and importance of aesthetic experience from the vantage of their current research.
