CPRL 533 Communications in the Corporate Sector. (3 credits)

This course will provide exposure to issues and functions essential for practice in the corporate sector, issues management, crisis communications, financial communications, branding and reputation management, as well as communications related to mergers and acquisitions. It will also provide the basic financial literacy necessary for any communications management professional.
CPRL 534 Communications in the Not-For-Profit Sector. (3 credits)
This course will provide exposure to issues and stakeholders important to not-for-profit organizations: NGOs, charitable foundations, cultural organizations, health and education institutions and community organizations. It will cover socio-political issues affecting these organizations as well as planning and methods for communications with donors, volunteers, regulators, funding agencies and corporate partners.

How organizations, voters, media and interest groups work to influence public policy, and how the efforts of each affect the others. Government relations at the political and public service level, including lobbying, advocacy, and regulatory issues. Coalition building. Public opinion research methods and theory. Media and democracy.

Communication plans in real situations. Topics include environmental scanning, audits, strategy and implementation of plan, including timelines, budgeting, working with suppliers and consulting skills. Emphasis on evaluation and return on investment of communication.

Public relations practitioner's role and influence in the ethical organization: corporate social responsibility, laws and regulations on governance, and public accountability. Legal and ethical behaviour related to sustainable development and globalization. The ethical public relations practitioner: professionalism, codes of ethics, issues in practice.

Specialized course covering an advanced topic in the public relations management area selected from current issues or themes in literature.
CSPN 540 Organizational Culture in the Hispanic World. (3 credits)

Designed to give students insight into the various forms of organizational behaviour in the Hispanic world and provide its historic background. The implications of the essential concepts of social psychology such as motivation, perception and attitude change will be discussed. Classroom discussions and student participation are essential.
CSPN 541 Language and Culture for Professional Communication. (3 credits)
Concentrates on spoken Spanish for special purposes in social settings (e.g. tourism/banking/hotel) through rigorous practical exercises. Accurate interpretation and production of oral tracts routinely exchanged in social communication contexts. The course provides students with near-native control of the language system preparing them to meet most business and social demands.
CSPN 542 Written Communication Contexts. (3 credits)
Study of the specific lexicons and effective writing strategies for special purposes (e.g. business, health care and social services). Analysis of writing problems. Systematic approach to planning, writing and revising texts routinely exchanged in professional communication in these contexts. Focus on clarity, conciseness, appropriate tone, protocol and purpose.
CSPN 543 Oral Communication Contexts. (3 credits)
Designed to help students develop their oral communication competence at an advanced level and in specific professional situations. Students will learn to perform complex tasks using suitable language and communication strategies, while respecting appropriate protocols.
CSPN 544 Professional Discourse. (3 credits)
Study of discourse used in simulated real-life situations. Analysis of the situational development to consolidate the linguistic accuracy and communicative proficiency acquired in earlier courses. Presentation of documented descriptions of procedures as final class project that may serve for future reference.
CTPT 200 Introduction to Supply Chain Management. (3 credits)

This course provides an overall perspective of various functions that exist within supply chains; macro processes and drivers as well as performance indicators along a supply chain are emphasized. Coordination issues are dealt with using a simulation game involving various supply chain stakeholders.

This course is a comprehensive review of sourcing, an important area of supply chain management. It covers four major components of sourcing: the in-house or outsource decisions, the supplier selection and evaluation processes, contract management and procurement processes. Case studies are used to illustrate implementation issues in sourcing.

Topics include: production and service processes, lean manufacturing methods, total quality management, project management, supply and demand planning. Introduction to day-to-day management and control of the logistics function and how traffic and transportation, inventory management, packaging, customer service, communication systems and order processing activities impact an integrated organizational environment.
CTPT 206 Transportation Management and Economics. (3 credits)

This course focuses on freight transportation, with emphasis on trucking, rail and marine modes including intermodal. Furthermore, it focuses on management of the transportation function from a carrier perspective, including a basic understanding of the structure and regulation of the transportation industry and analysis of specific case examples.
CTPT 207 Transportation Law and Policy. (3 credits)

Evolution of federal transportation policy, including the primary laws and tribunals the government uses to control and structure the Canadian transportation industry in a global context: airlines, railways, marine and trucking; the Canada Transportation Act and the legal consequences of the National Transportation Policy and international transport policy.
CTPT 208 Fundamentals of Logistics. (3 credits)
Automne 2019
This course addresses the infrastructure required to support logistics activities and the flow of goods and information, including: traffic and transportation, warehousing, materials handling, inventory concepts, Logistics Information Systems, performance indicators, customer service and order processing.
CTPT 220 Strategic Logistics. (3 credits)
Basic principles of logistics and applying them to the role of marketing channels of distribution as a tool employed by marketers to compete with other companies. Focuses on important issues in logistics and market channel management and their relationship to strategic marketing.
CTPT 225 Principles of Logistics 2. (3 credits)
Infrastructure required to support logistics activities and flow, specifically warehousing, materials handling, packaging, logistics information systems, performance indicators, implementation strategies and how these elements interact to form an integrated logistics process.
