Ste. Anne’s Military Hospital was established in 1917 in the city of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, west of Montreal, to care for veterans of WWI. It was located on land leased from ±«ÓãÖ±²¥â€™s Macdonald College and consisted of multiple interconnected two-story buildings. The site was purchased by Veterans Affairs Canada in 1950. Its capacity had grown to 1130 beds by 1958. A new 14-story building opened in 1971. At first focusing primarily on psychiatry and general medicine, the hospital became increasingly specialized in geriatric medicine as the veteran population aged in the 1980-90s. In 2016, the hospital was transferred to the Quebec Government and it now functions as a long-term care center specialized in the treatment of operational stress injury.
